This fourth edition of the guide has been comprehensively overhauled, with an all-new guide to the Best of the Baltic States, a new Introduction, four new photo essays and expanded listings. The first part of the book details the history and culture of these three former Soviet states. The Places section contains descriptive region-by-region accounts of the three republics. Completing the book, the Travel Tips provide full listings and all the practical information you'll need.
Likes:
1) Lots of pictures makes it easy to browse when you're not really in the mood to sit down and tackle text.
2) Good country and regional maps.
3) Well-written and thorough historical and cultural sections.
Dislikes:
1) Size: a bit larger than your standard Moon, Rough Guides, or Lonely Planet.
2) Pictures all seem a bit artificial or too touristy from the start; in retrospect, they don't set the mood at all the way I experienced it while there (this is obviously a very objective statement...)
3) Not really enough weird stuff for my tastes. Overall, it's a bit too straightforward and for the standard visitor. I generally want to do strange things that the average person does not do. (Again, this is very objective, and from a twisted mind...) Anyway, I found plenty of weird stuff to do without help.
Overall, it's a good travel guide, and I'm not sure that there is a better one out there. Now that I own it, I'd keep it rather than risk a trade. It does its duty of giving you an idea of what is there.

It gives you the history, which is the backbone to know these countries and suggests the most important sights. The book served my purpose perfectly and it added to my guided tour.

This is a pretty standard travel guide. Although I travel very independantly, I always like to at least have a book to browse to make sure I don't completely overlook or forget about something at my destination. Just a few points that stuck out to me
